Chrono Cross OST.Disc1.Track07

Dream of the Shore Near Another World

Some of you may have played the game Chrono Trigger on the SNES back in the day. Chrono Cross was the spiritual successor to this excellent game, but the way the two stories actually merged was very complex and unclear at first. Still, both games have incredible soundtracks, and this happens to be one of my favorites. Enjoy.

  1. Perhaps you can explain to me the appeal of “One-Winged Angel”? I know it’s not related to Chrono-Anything… I just don’t see what the big deal is. Is it because it’s Sephiroth? FFVII? I like so much other FF music so much better than that one.

    1. Ha ha! Yes, One-Winged Angel is a great song, but I consider Final Fantasy 6’s “Dancing Mad” to be vastly superior. You can listen to it on one of my History with Final Fantasy posts.

The appeal of One-Winged Angel is mostly that Final Fantasy 7 was the game that really brought the RPG market to the West and it is firmly entrenched in many peoples minds as the first Japanese RPG they ever really played. Japanese RPGs were around LOOOONG before FF7, but it really was a premiere PS1 title and, for the time, it was a technological beast. This made it a ‘must have’ title for PS1 owners and to that generation, this is THE definitive Final Fantasy. For us old guys who started playing FF in 1986, it was the 4th FF game released in the states (the numbering was weird because the US didn’t get all the Final Fantasy games, and the ones we got were not in correct numerical order) and, though it was a good game, previous games outdid it in storyline, character development and music. The attachment to One-Winged Angel by the fan boy masses is more a psychological one than anything else.

Don’t get me wrong, One-Winged Angel is a GREAT song, but listen to Dancing Mad and you will quickly move OWA down your list of greatest Final Fantasy songs.

      1. That’s what I was getting at: I don’t think OWA is actually all that good. To me, even the standard battle theme from FFIX is better than OWA. FFVII had so much more awesome music than OWA.
